The Beagle Welfare Scheme – Petition Plea
Posted in General on October 25, 2011 by tailwaggerclubThe Beagle Welfare Scheme are campaigning to eliminate the use of Beagles in experimentation for scientific purposes. They are working with the Kennel Club and a parliamentary group headed by Zac Goldsmith MP to bring to the fore this abhorrant practice.
The Government are looking to abolish animal experimentation for domestic and household products in the UK by the end of the year. However the bigger aspect of scientific research is going to be a much bigger nut to crack.
An online petition has been instigated which requires 100,000 signatures to become eligible for questions to be tabled in Parliament to address this matter. At the moment the petition only has just over 2,500 signatures, if you feel strongly please add your name to the petition.
A group of professionals & parents against the use of animal testing have set up the group ‘Safer Medicines for our Children’. They are campaigning for the modernisation of medical research methods to benefit human health. They have two further petitions which you can find here.
Please share this plea to enable the petitions to get maximum coverage.

Tailwagger Club Display Team Took Part in World Record!
Posted in General on September 26, 2011 by tailwaggerclubOn Sunday 18th September 2011 at The Burns Dog Day Out in Pembrey Country Park Wales, the Tailwagger Club took part in an attempt to break the World Record for the Largest Dog Obedience Lesson. The previous World Record was beaten by over 50 dogs though is yet to be confirmed by Guiness World Records. You can find out more information on the Burns Website.
Tailwagger Club Display Team Retain Their Title!!
Posted in General on September 20, 2011 by tailwaggerclubOn 17th September 2011 the Tailwagger Display team took part in The Interclub Dogolympics in Wales and I am delighted to report they retained their title!!
Angela Lowrie, founder and owner of the Tailwagger Club, is highly delighted with the teams “We took first and third places and all the dogs were JUST FABULOUS. Dogs that had taken part before were even better than they were last year and new dogs to the event exceeded expectations. It’s obvious that a lot of time and effort had been put in by all involved. A special mention for Tess and Lesley who took the prize for highest individual score and also for Barney and Doreen who earned an ‘acknowledged progress’ award. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this year was how it really was a team effort, no 1 dog was doing all the winning and the top places moved from dog to dog depending on the challenge.
The early feedback I am getting is that everyone enjoyed it, it was well worth the journey, but also that now it is time to get this competion launched in the north”
Well done to everyone who took part.
Interclub Dogolympics and Burns Dog Day Out 2011
Posted in General on September 6, 2011 by tailwaggerclubThe Tailwagger Dog Display Team will be taking part in the Interclub Dogolympic Challenge on 17th September 2011 held at Pembrey Country Park, Llanelli, Camarthanshire, Wales.
There are 7 Dogolympic Challenges:
Musical Dog Chairs
Slowest Recall
Ragger Retrieval
Tidy Up
Relay Race Through Toys
Wuf Challenge
Kong Retrieval
This year four teams will be competing, two are from The Tailwagger Club Dog Display Team and two are from Lynne Davies Dog Training. Lynne was a trainer on the BBC’s Dog Borstal.
Each team is made up of six dogs and each dog in the team has a go at every Challenge. The Challenges are played in rounds leading up to a final and usually start with a dog from every team in each round. Rather like It’s a Knock Out a team is allowed to play a Joker for one of the Challenges but nobody knows which one until the start of that Challenge.
Last year we returned home with the trophy! The team have been training hard so fingers crossed they retain their title!
Plan’s are afoot for next years event introducing more Challenges and also introducing it here in Yorkshire. We also plan to start a competition for individuals.
The following day, 18th September 2011, we will be part of Burns Dog Day Out 2011 also held at Pembrey Country Park. You can get more information about the event on Burns website.
It’s such a great event for both you and your dog, come along and join in with the fun.
